Great timing

Lately we have been pretty busy running missions. There have been some long days and even longer nights. Two missions in particular come to mind. On one patrol a vehicle broke down and we were stuck outside of the wire dealing with it for quite awhile before it was up and running again. On another mission we rolled into a town to check out a weapons cache that had been found. Across the street from the site was a large gathering of people that we first assumed was a wedding. We came to find out shortly that it was not a wedding at all but a funeral for an insurgent who had been killed in a gunfight with U.S. forces a day prior. Needless to say that was not welcomed news. One can imagine the kind of company a known insurgent probably keeps and can assume that at least a few individuals at his funeral would enjoy seeing my head on a pike. Fortunately, we took care of business and got the hell out of there without any problem.
