goodnight
My last post was pretty negative and I'd like to end the day with something a little more upbeat. So just to help calm the nerves of the family and friends of soldiers in my unit, be assured that we are all doing just fine. Many of us (probably every single one of us) miss home badly, but I am impressed with the positive attitudes that I frequently see. It seems that we have all accepted our job and wake up each morning ready to do what needs to be done in order to get home safely and as soon as possible. I admit that many of us gripe often, but that's just part of being a soldier. A sergeant of mine often says, "a soldier with something to gripe about is a happy soldier." I'm not exactly sure what that means or why that would be true, but he is higher ranking than me so I just accept it.
Anyway, have a happy Valentine’s Day everyone. I’ll post some pictures soon, as promised.

When you read this it will be Valentine's Day--Happy Love Day to you, my beloved, brave son-My love, support and prayers...always, Momma xoxo
I think one of the great traditions of American soldiering is that you can gripe, and say your opinion, especially about equipment problems. That's the American way, and I'm glad you have your say.
Love to read your updates--we think of you often-hope time goes by as quickly for you as it seems to here--you have nearly been gone a full month. Stay up beat and safe. Peggy and Al
Home misses you as well, my man. Stay safe and keep working on that Arabic. You're always on our minds and we eagerly await your return.

P.S. Hey, what's the local food like? If it's good, you better learn how to cook that s#@t.
Keep griping and keep your powder dry! We miss you, too, Hoe
Love and Happy Valentine's Day

Joe Mamma- I am so psyched that you are keeping such a consistent diary and that you are saying whatever you feel needs to be said, fearlessly. It's always been one of your strongest character suits to say what need be said, even if it is difficult. Know that your courage is an inspiration to me.
I love you.

And a Happy Valentine to you! I imagine flowers are a little tough to come by.... Maybe some frozen chocolates for the 'higher ups'. Take good care, Uncle Petee.
Joey, I had birthday dinner with your mom last night. When you get to be her age, you have to celebrate for months, not just one day! :o) She is doing well and we had a great time, although I couldn't get her to order something other than a salad. I'm working on that. She did make me happy by ordering a yummy, decadent chocolate dessert. The photos were great--would love to see one of you, if possible. You make us so proud, and please thank all of your comrades for the difficult job you're all doing. Hugs to you! Pam
