Video games and romantic walks through a barren wasteland
The last few days have run me down a bit, but I think everyone is in pretty good spirits around here. We've established a daily routine and are getting use to this place as best we can. Some of us have had various guard duties and other details lately and are feeling pretty tired. I plan on hitting the gym tonight (yes there is a decent gym) and going straight to bed. Lots of guys have been sick the last several weeks and I'm trying to avoid it. I know I'm only prolonging my suffering but I can't help but try.
Today we practiced recognizing a target and engaging it (i.e. shooting bad guys) in what is essentially a complex video game. Four of us line up together holding electronic rifles and face a large screen. A movie plays depicting various situations and we have to react to what happens. When you fire your weapon the screen detects where you hit and the instructor critiques your performance. It was actually pretty cool. It gave me a chance to see how quick on the draw I really am. It also allows us to practicing differentiating between enemy soldiers and innocent civilians, which is an essential skill. You don't want to make a mistake in the heat of the moment that will cost an innocent person their life.
Other than sporadic training and lots of aimless walking, I think we are all focused on getting the hell out of this dump and starting work at what will unfortunately become our new home for the next several months.
Also, so far no luck getting Jeff on a camel, Jessica. But I promise my camera is at the ready.

Are you using the FATS (Fire Arm Training System i think) machine? My Dad worked at a police academy and we'd get to play with that sometimes...
Good luck getting Jeff on a camel! I don't think it will happen, but if you do it will be an awesome picture!
