clarification

I think some people might be confused as to the reason why our unit would take on missions before we actually arrive at our duty station. Truth be told I didn't know we'd be going out either until I was awakened from a deep sleep and told so. I don't think it's going to happen often and I don't want to worry anyone unnecessarily, particularly the families of men in my unit. There are some relatively routine jobs that need to be done from time to time, and we have the know-how and equipment to get them done. We are still easing ourselves into this whole thing, so please don’t worry about any of us being forced to take on any kamikaze missions because that just isn’t the way it is. Right now, in relation to many soldiers out there, we are very safe.
