Shoulda used a flashlight
This is a picture of the night fire qualification range. The red lines are tracer rounds from our M-16's. There was also a big storm off in the distance and you can see the lightning on the horizon. To qualify at this range a firer had to hit the target (marked by the blue light in the middle of the range) 7 times out of 30. Because we had already qualified with our weapons that day, I wasn't worried about the night fire. To be honest, it was so dark I couldn't see a damn thing anyway. We were told to fire in two man teams, so my squad leader and I decided to team up. I told him ahead of time that I was just going to fire off my rounds quickly and then take some pictures of him shooting so that he could email them to his wife. He seemed cool with the plan. When we were instructed to fire, I pointed my weapon in the general direction of the blue light and let loose. When my mag was empty (in about 10 seconds) I started snapping shots, knowing for certain that I never actually hit the target.
Later, when the instructors were reading off our scores they announced that we were actually being judged by our total two man score. As a team we had to hit the darn thing 14 times. Alas, our combined score was 13. Yep, that's squad leader 13, Joey zero. Oops. He was not a happy man. I think I laughed for a good half hour straight. The worst part was, all of the pictures I took sucked.

Joe Joe-
Hey there. Well I'm at work, of course, doing your job! (More curses to George W.!) I made this picture the background of my computer, it's pretty cool. Nate and I finished the Drambuie the other night... hard to believe there was even any left! We'll have to break the news to Peter that we will need to buy a new bottle of it for your return. I was camping all weekend in the Gorge, and so when I got home I was greeted with all your new postings. I think from now on I will read them every few days, it's more like Christmas that way. Anyways, miss you with my heart, and hope to hear from you soon. Nic and I were thinking about sending you some brownies or something... not the magic kind though, although it might be entertaining. We'll try to stop procrastinating soon and get those off to ya. Love you - Lori
