Spent a day doing yard work and improving the outside of our barracks. It actually felt nice taking care of a few projects. Normally, if we aren't out on a mission we're just sitting around watching movies or reading, waiting to be called. I spent the whole day hauling gravel in a wheelbarrow and by the time we were done I was completely exhausted. It was worth the effort though. We cleared out both of our courtyards and made fire pits surrounded by concrete benches, which we painted. Now, just about every time we get a few hours at night a bunch of us sit around the fire talking and smoking Cuban cigars (which we are able to buy when we visit other camps). A few times a week or so the chow hall has cans of non alcoholic beer (which we call Near Beer) and we fill our cargo pockets and take them back to the barracks to relax by the fire. It isn't quite like being at home with the boys, but it is really nice to get the chance to kick back and act like we're just a bunch of normal guys out on a camping trip or something.
