I'd rather fight alongside volunteers

According to Colonel Hackworth, a military draft is on the way. The idea of fighting in Iraq alongside men and women who were forced to be there, is an unsettling one. Politicians better think of legitimate incentives to draw men and women into service, because coercion will not do much to build an effective fighting force. Current policies such as "stop-loss" which compel those currently serving in the military to serve even when their contractual obligation is over, only exacerbates the problems associated with a military spread far to thin. If you want to increase our fighting force you must treat the soldiers you have well, not use the threat of force to make others join their ranks.

The U.S. military knows this to be true. Hopefully politicians will take the advice of those who lead our forces and refuse to implement such an unjust policy.
