soldier and Iraqi blogs
Here is a short article that describes the military's reaction to soldier's blogging from Iraq. The article specifically focuses on a soldier's website that my family and I frequent. I had an email conversation with this particular man earlier this month in which he told me that the army has all but shut down his site and that as a soldier he has "no freedom of speech." As someone planning on writing about my experience from Iraq, I hope that that is not the case. In the army's defense, I understand the need to keep certain information from being available to the public. At the same time, so long as I am not compromising "operational security," I feel I should have the liberty to say any dang thing I want.
Also, here are a few blogs of interest written by Iraqi citizens. They offer very different perspectives regarding the occupation, some generally optimistic, other more or less critical. All worth checking out though.
